I can honestly say that there are many things I have thought at some point in my life I might be: a lawyer, a nurse, maybe even a teacher. But one thing I never thought I would be is a hurricane evacuee. Just weeks after moving to Katy, Hurricane Ike decided to head our way. Luckily, we ended up being on the clean side of the storm, for whatever that's worth. The power went out Friday, Sept. 12th at about 6 pm just as we were sitting down to dinner. It was an interesting night to say the least. Of course, being in Houston with out power meant being without A/C. That is not an ideal situation to be in. So, the kiddos, Jack (our black lab) and I packed up and headed up to Killeen. Ms. Carolyn graciously opened her doors to us and let us stay through Tuesday, when the power finally came on back in Katy. Luckily, Jeanne and Jim's house didn't suffer any damage but they did end up losing probably several hundred dollars worth of food. I guess that's a small price to pay for making it through a hurricane pretty much unscathed.
Of course, while we were in Killeen, we got to visit with Ms. Carolyn and Julian, the Morrows and our friends Erica, Mark, Chip and Laura. Hopefully the next time we are in Killeen it will be just for the fun of it and not due to a natural disaster.
