Well, this is my first post. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. But I guess I need to figure it out as it will be easier than sending out e-mails. And we all know how good I am about that!
Things are going pretty well here. We had a flashback yesterday with Layla. We had a follow-up with her GI doctor, Dr. Noel at 8 am. That went great and he wants us to up her adjust her feeds so that she's getting more food over a shorter period of time. She had also been coughing so badly due to some congestion that she was making herself throw up (flashback being back to after her g-tube was put in and she threw up all the time for about a month and a half). So we called her new pediatrician, Dr. Organ, who used to be military but now is in private practice locally. He is a wonderful doctor who cares a great deal about Layla. And being former military, he knows all of her other doctors. Continuity of care achieved! Anyway, he had us come in so he could listen to her. She didn't sound too badly but he wanted chest x-rays anyway. So off we went to the hospital. While we were there waiting, we met a wonderful woman named Cara. She's a military spouse and they just moved here. Her huband just got orders to deploy to Iraq. She asked about Layla and then told us that her son Ian had passed away in August of last year from cp. He was only three years old and was their only child. Our hearts broke for her because we know that one day that will be us. By the time we left, all of us were crying.
On a positive note, Layla is doing great today. She's been sleeping like a champ and hasn't thrown up anything in nearly 24 hours. Sean is doing great in school and has actually had two "green" days this week! Green days are perfect days, red days are bad, and yellow and orange are in between. He was very proud of himself, as were we. He is also now part of "The 100 Club" because he can count to 100 by himself. Hopefully, the good days will continue and the "flashback" will be just that!
